could the video project the feeling of being watched be the personification of an overbearing father in mark and poe's childhood. if anyone has some bio info or a good interview that could shed some light.

interesting, joe. i read somewhere that tad danielewski (father of poe and mark z.) was a documentary film maker and professor. you may be on to something. at the very least, this could have been an inspiration for the book; perhaps more, as you suggest. images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

okay, i have a copy of an interview of mzd by a guy named nelson taylor... he did the interview in may of 2000 and it no longer exists on the iuniverse website... and i can not find it anywhere else on the web (as of yet) but by internet standards, it rather long.... i find it to be important to understanding mzd and the book i will scan it in and post it (hopefully) this evening

I doubt this needs saying, but in the list of credits a VHS of Exploration #4 was provided by the Talmor Zedactur Depositary. Or, TZD. Tad Z. How long ago did Mark & Poe find their dad's stuff? I heard that HoL took something like 10 years to write, so this must have happened a while ago...
