Hey All,

From Amazon via peeps at Pantheon.

Keep this thread for your remarks. Open another if you want to comment on remarks or this thread or the world cup I shan't hesitate to prune.

Dear forum members,

Amazon.com wants to post initial reactions to Only Revolutions. Rather than start with reviews from the usual suspects in this business (look for the starred Kirkus review out on July 15th), we wanted to hear from people who've read Danielewski and know a bit about what he's up to. We all realize how challenging a book this is, but we also know (and love) that it's unlike anything out there. Your words, insights and responses would be most appreciated. Post your name as you'd like it to appear with your response. Screen names are fine.

"Most books you read once and never pick them up again. There are a few you like so much you'll read a second time. Only Revolutions is a book that will leave you wanting to read it over and over and over and over again."

Danielewski alone can map out a course for his reader and then let them decide to go in an entirely different direction, while still keeping interest in the plot.

To read Only Revolutions, it is enough at first to turn pages. Then the book - first surprise. Then you notice that the words turn themselves within pages, within page, from a protagonist to the other one - responding each other. The words, the worlds, and the sounds, in a merry-go-round and around which does not stop turning and in which we have of respite to return.
After House of leaves, by taking it to his literally and literarily primary sense, MZD reinvents the sense of reading.
An inventive poetic addicting novel.

In all of Danielewski's previous works he has messed with the minds of his readers. This book is no exception. In Only Revolutions, the act of reading has been redefined.

As expected, Danielewski gives you a book you can't make heads nor tails of. It's a roller coaster of poetry, insanity, color, shapes and two very interesting characters all into one amazing and capturing book.

Only Revolutions can dissuade you (for you were there, after all) from believing in revolutions and the power of one; jump in the back seat and ride along with two hopped-up, sexed up teenagers on revolving wheels over a turning earth, in a spiral galaxy, in a bubbling frothy universe, from the highlands to the heartland and back again, and again, in an ever- widening gyre, as the voices of generals and captains fade from hearing, from history, from herstory, from the great rolling circle of logic that denies time and self in favor of love, embraces human frailty and bankrolls the quest for identity in a fragmented, broken, frightened amnesiac world quivering on the brink of destruction and the cusp of creation at once - always at once, and all ways in doubt. We are allways sixteen. Allways living and dying. Always and forever in love with life and death and the triumph of US.

Can't top that; here's mine:

Only Revolutions is a spherical book held together by the the internal force of its style.
